The power to inspire…

Power to persuade, power to control, power to bully… we can probably name a few.  I personally don’t have time for those power hungry, power mongers.  They try to suck you into the vortex with them, and that is not a happy place.  I would rather look at power differently… like having the power to inspire…

I was checking out links tonight on my #cpchat tweeter feed and found this post by Dan Rockwell ‘How to get power’.  I clicked on it ready to have issues, yes I prejudged the post and thought about all those people who abuse their “power” and use their power to be a bully.  (Sorry Dan) When I read the post I was pleasantly surprised by its message. Here’s an excerpt (but please click on the link above for the whole post).

You enhance your power by giving it away. Real power isn’t about what you do but about what you teach others to do.

You extend your power when you enable others. The secret to getting more power is helping others achieve and succeed.

I agree with Dan on this, it isn’t that power is a bad thing.  It is more what you do with the power you have.  You can use your power to control and make others less, or you can use it to inspire others to greatness. You see, power isn’t about what it does to those who have it, it is more about what it can do for others.

How will you use your power? I plan on using mine to inspire others to greatness.
