365 Challenge: Day 50

Day 50 and I’m still going strong with the #365 Challenge. In the last couple of weeks I have seen many examples of educators having their students take pictures for sharing, projects, writing pieces, and performance tasks.  I really like the idea of having students taking pictures, no matter the content. I think curriculum connections are plenty, whether it be looking for geometric shapes, illustrating a story about snow, or taking pictures of simple machines in our world.

To celebrate my 50th day I did two things:

1. Took this picture:

The Inspirational TeacherBecause I really believe that we as educators set the tone for the learning environment, we can choose to inspire or discourage.

2. Bought a new camera… I know I said that I was just going to use my Blackberry camera and a Sony Cybershot but there were times that I really just wanted more zoom, and better settings for low light, so my new Nikon P90 is on its way- whoo hoo! (This doesn’t necessarily mean that my pictures will be better, remember I’m still an amateur.)

I also watched this great slideshow: ‘Interesting photos and videos from the last 7 days’.  After having a stressful day, watching these pictures really relaxed me. That is the beauty of images, they have a power… where will that power take you?
